Don’t Try Harder to Improve Your Posture Are you having posture problem? Have you thought about following posture exercises to bring some change? posture shirts It’s true the most of people will take it positive to make their posture better but they don’t know how to do it. Modern living means we probably are not as active as previous generations. We spend long hours sitting at desks, in cars or when relaxing, slumping in front of the TV. In these situations you are not using your muscles as nature originally intended. Some body parts become overstressed including shoulders and neck while others become weaker like lower back area. posture shirt Poor posture has been recognized as a factor in health for many years resulting in the development of posture exercises to correct it. But using the certain muscles set during posture exercises we disturb the natural reflex system for improving posture properly. Several types of built in reflexes are present in our body to coordinate the muscular framework to carry our various movements and to take various positions. In case of having poor posture the reflexes are not allowed to work as they need to do. Over stress makes you stiff your neck and shoulder area. Due to such problems the natural body mechanism gets disturbed and posture as well. The constant improper use of muscles can cause creating issues in your movements. It becomes a catch-22 problem. More you will repeat the wrong pattern the better you will be able to learn it until it is corrected. While I am in the favor of posture exercises to bring positive changes in posture but in actual sense it makes the situation complicated. What could be done in this situation to get the better posture? Is it the right way we should follow to stand. Being a teacher of The Alexander Technique I have seen several people suffering from the bad outcome of poor posture. I also see just as many who are suffering as a result of their attempts to correct it! Just by trying to stand in a straight way you don’t move towards improving posture rather just put pressure over muscle and joints.Rather than trying to stand and sit in a way you feel is correct, you can learn how to remove the unnecessary stress in your body and allow your postural reflexes to work as nature intended. So don’t think about posture rather concentrate over poise. Poise is a lost skill from our youth. Having poise in your body means that you don’t need to do a lot of effort to keep your body into balanced posture and to perform all basic action in proper natural way. You can see this skill in professional athletes and media personalities. Just think about the balanced personalities of Muhammad Ali or Fred Astaire and you will get example of having poise in body. I doubt if they used exercises to improve their posture! Poise can be achieved just by pushing the stress and tension out of your body and letting it respond to the power of gravity. If you are having no issue in walking with spring then it shows you are having poise. If you can sit over a desk with no stress over your shoulders, neck and back then you are poised. Trying to improve your posture by trying harder will take you further away from your natural poised state. So just stop over here and let your natural response to shape your basic position including sitting, standing and walking so you could get back you poise successfully.
